Mylo is a young, 10 month old tuxedo cat with a life threatening condition and a solid gold will to live. He needs a complicated and very expensive surgery to repair his chest. His liver and other organs have slipped into a hole in his chest cavity and are limiting his capacity to breathe. This condition is called a diaphragmatic hernia. We applied for a grant to help us cover the surgery- AMC to The Rescue- and Mylo was accepted as a candidate!! Currently we will owe only around 2k- this is amazing news and helps us give Mylo the chance he deserves to be a normal young cat!!
There are many ways to donate to his fund. We are a 501c3 non profit, EIN # 33-4122194. If you need a tax donation receipt, please email us at bigapplecatrescue@gmail.com. And continue reading to learn his full story!

Sweet Mylo was rescued from the Bronx as a friendly stray- but his journey to adoption took quite a detour! He got neutered at ASPCA- they didn’t notice his labored breathing but they did notice he had pectus excavatum (A concave rib cage!). He also turned ‘cyanotic’ during the surgery- which means he wasn’t able to maintain his oxygen levels. Luckily- he survived his neuter!!
Then we started to notice his labored breathing and random coughing fits. The amazing team at Brilliant Vet brought him in for a consult- and after xrays and ultrasounds we got the news that he had a diaphragmatic hernia. We were left with three options.
- find a way to afford the expensive, complicated, and necessary surgery
- humanely euthanize him before he lost the ability to breathe on his own
- wait for the day he couldn’t breathe on his own and suffocated to death- there was no guarantee if that would be in a week, a month, a year, or longer.

Mylo is the absolute sweetest cat. He only wants to sit next to humans, on their lap, chest, stomach! He is so grateful to be safe inside and rescued! He has a great appetite and loves crunchy treats! He enjoys playtime- catnip toys and elastic mousies are his favorite. We couldn’t euthanize him yet… he loves life too much! Waiting for the day he stopped being able to breathe just didn’t make any sense. So we really had only one option and we needed to make it happen- we applied for AMC to The Rescue within 24 hours of his diagnosis. This amazing program responded to us quickly, and after a consult they officially accepted Mylo as a candidate and are covering the majority of the cost of his surgery!
His surgery is scheduled for January 12th. It is complicated and high risk. There is a chance Mylo doesn’t survive. But he deserves this chance at a full life and we are going to give it to him! We will make sure all his days leading up to the surgery are filled with his favorite things and lots of love.

Thank you so much for supporting Mylo’s fund and his journey to recovery. This resilient little cat is so special and we are grateful that we are the ones to get to know him and help him heal!
